Magic Leap experience on the Vive Focus?

There is all this hype for Magic Leap in these days, but so few people can try it, because it costs too much and ships only in selected regions. I wanted to make the Magic Leap experience available to more people, that’s why I’ve made a Magic Leap One emulator for the Vive Focus. Well, sort of. Look at the video… 🙂

Yeah, of course, I was kidding. Vive Focus has some AR functionalities, but can’t reach the high level of the augmented reality of HoloLens and Magic Leap! Anyway, if you’re interested in trying this little stupid Rock Throwing Guy app on your Focus, you can download it from here. And if you want, I can also provide you the source code so that you can develop Rock Throwing Guy for all the XR platforms you want (like for instance the cheap AR viewer Aryzon) and feel like wearing Magic Leap even if you are poor. If this is the case, contact me… I’m not sharing the Unity solution publicly because it contains a lot of downloaded assets (and also some poorly written code!).

I hope that everyone will take this for what it is: just a bit of satire on Magic Leap, to laugh a bit. So don’t consider it too seriously... I know that Magic Leap One is actually a good device. The problem is all that happens around it…

And that’s all for this super-short video post! Let me know your impressions in the comments section… and see you tomorrow with a new post about my Chinese experience…

UPDATE: The experience can now be found also on Viveport M: look for “Rock Throwing Guy AR” and enjoy!

  1. great video 🙂 Also, I feel your pain too (and i am in the US)! I live in a state that allows to order Mleap, but apparently they do not know when they will start shipping here! It kind of sucks for people like us, since we re actively developing “decent” stuff for AR, yet we are unable to get the hardware to make the content the MLeap platform really needs 🙂
Anyways, i have been actively following all your Ar developments (specially on the Focus), and you are amazing.. great work 🙂

    1. Thank you for the compliments!

I think that Magic Leap wants to start slowly to get the feedbacks from the first wave of developers and then shipping to others. Furthermore, doing this way, they get a continuous flow of hype of new people in new states buying the device.

I feel your pain… you are so close, so far! What app do you plan to develop for Magic Leap?

      1. well, no specific app yet, but the one i did for Vive Pro, people though it was cool. That one consisted of a simple but fun whack a monster game and then using portals to push the story. Yet, I would never do the same app for MLeap (I have a lot of gratitude and loyalty to HTC), but I feel a simple game like the that, perhaps using sinkholes (or pipes like the ones in Super mario, would be cool).

        1. Wow, cool concepts! I think that using portals in MR is absolutely cool. Well, then we have to wait for HTC to create a Magic Focus AR glass to make that game… 😉
