The breaking news round-up: Decagear launches today, Pimax announces new headsets, and more!
Yesterday I published my usual roundup of the most interesting AR/VR news of the week. But during the night so many important announcements have been done that I felt the need of writing this addendum to my roundup. So enjoy this collection of breaking news about the XR ecosystem!
Decagear launches today for $19.99

Today, a surprising announcement shook the XR ecosystem. Megalolo Stimulations has just announced the launch of the Decagear headset, the device that a few years ago promised to revolutionize the PCVR market. The company is sorry for not having been very communicative in the last few months, during a short crisis it had, but now it is ready to launch its device. Thanks to Artificial Intelligence, the small team at Megalolo, who seemed not to have much experience, has been able to vibe code both the hardware and the software of Decagear and so be ready to launch the headset on the market and compete with the likes of Apple and Meta.
Decagear features 12K per eye (OLED display), a 180° FOV, IPD adjustment, eye tracking, and face tracking. It works both as a PC VR headset and a standalone headset, thanks to the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR3 Gen 2 Plus, which guarantees optimal performance even when working without a connected PC. It can also work as AR glasses, thanks to its lenses covered with silicon carbide. And optionally can also function as a head massager, bottle refrigerator, and vacuum cleaner. The headset is compatible with all 4 remaining games PCVR people have to play: Half-Life: Alyx, Aircar, Into The Radius, and Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Decagear is even cheaper than the company initially announced: the headset is costing only $19.99, but payment can only be provided in Dogecoins at a specific cryptowallet of a guy based in Singapore. Affiliate links to buy it are available on MRTV and other YouTube accounts. You can fully trust that after you pay, the headset will be shipped to you soon.
Pimax announces the Pimax Crystal Super Ultra Plus

As it usual happens when a company announces an interesting PC VR headset, Pimax has made its move to answer to the Decagear. In a surprise livestream, the Chinese company has unveiled a headset it is working on: the Pimax Crystal Super Ultra Plus. The Pimax Crystal Super Ultra Plus features 250° of diagonal FOV and a boasting resolution of 16K per eye. It is large 1m and weighs only 3kg, keeping all the usual large design of the Pimax headsets. The minimum specifications to run this beast include an NVIDIA RTX 7090 that is expected to be announced in 2027.
To satisfy the appetite of PC VR users and to keep its offering coherent and streamlined, Pimax has also announced two other headsets: the affordable Pimax Crystal Super Ultra Plus Light and the Pimax Crystal Super Ultra Plus Giga, with the last one also including eye tracking and scent emission. In the same video there has also been announced a streaming station, a handheld console, a microwave, and a potato peeler.
The Pimax Crystal Super Ultra Plus is going to cost $1999. Preorders are open today, and shipping is expected by the realistic deadline of May 2025. Regarding the payment, there has been a new change in the formula to make everything easier for the customers. During the preorders, you have to leave $99 of deposit, then when the headset ships, you pay $1000, then you have to pay a $9.99/month subscription to Pimax software for 12 months, work 6 months in a Chinese restaurant for an equivalent pay of $25/month and fill the rest of the amount with a donation of blood and sperm.

Meta announces new changes for the Horizon Store

In its usual pursuit of making the Quest ecosystem always better for its users, Meta has decided to apply an important change to its Horizon Store. From April 7th, all the searches for games and other applications on the Quest Store will lead only to Horizon Worlds content. Priority will be given to worlds of squeaking children, because this is what Quest users want, according to a very deep analysis performed by the company. This transition period will end on September 12th, just before Meta Connect, when actually the whole Horizon OS will be substituted by Horizon Worlds, so all Quest users can live the dream of enjoying the fun of Meta’s social VR world 24 hours a day.
According to Meta’s head of developer relations, no developer of premium content should be concerned by this change, because Meta verified with a very accurate market analysis between the friends of Mark Zuckerberg that this will impact the revenues of premium games by only 1%. “It is the growing interest towards free-to-play of our new market demographics that asked for it”, he said. In a piece of totally unrelated news, 850 people have been laid off from VR game studios today.
Visor announces Frap-cooling
The startup Visor is continuously improving its product in preparation for its imminent launch. Today, the company has announced a new incredible feature for its device: thanks to a partnership with Starbucks, the headset will ship with Frappuccinos to cool the device when it becomes too hot. “We turned a bug into a feature,” said a spokesperson of the company. “We realized that our employees were happy drinking frappuccinos while using our headset, so we decided to go all-in with it. At least when at our next event, the headsets won’t work again, all the journalists coming from all sides of the world will have something to drink“. I think that tequila would have been better than frappuccinos for this scenario, but everyone has its own opinion…
The news has been received very well by Al467, the only remaining person in the Discord server of the company, after all others have been kicked out for every minimal criticism of the product and its roadmap.
Meta expands the uses of the “MR” term

After having announced that at Meta, the term VR has now been conflated into “VR”, Andrew “Boz” Bosworth has revealed that starting from today, other terms will be mentioned as “MR”: AI, drones, 3D printing, 3D TV, nanotechnologies, robotics, and many others words (both technical and more common). When the community complained about this name change, he replied, “My role is to sell the MR, you nerds don’t understand the MR landscape regarding MR. Let me MR my job… and if you don’t agree, you can kiss my MR…”.
Brad Lynch and Luna reveal that they are the same person

Whenever there is a rumor about the Quest, it is always revealed by Brad Lynch (SadlyItsBradley) or Luna. Today, these two people have announced they are actually the same person and will rebrand as Brad Luna (SadlyItsBruna). The new account will continue posting about Quest leaks, copium for Valve Deckard, VRChat, and some weird shit.
Now I start having some suspects also on Mark Gurman and Ming Chi Kuo…
Some minor news

Some other minor news, but still worth a mention:
- AWE, the most popular XR (or should I say “MR”?) event, has announced a new chapter to happen on Mars in 2032. Ori Inbar is expected to join the first SpaceX shuttle colonizing the red planet so that he can deliver his usual inspiring keynote (with his usual jacket)
- Youtuber Tyriel Wood reveals that he has lost all his money gambling in Vegas during CES and now he’s homeless. He asks for money on the streets, promising through-the-lenses pictures in exchange for $1
- Pico responds to the criticisms that assesses that sometimes the company copies some of the features that Meta releases. “This is a disgusting accusation”, said the CEO of the company, who just changed his name to Mark Puckerberg
- Varjo teased the XR-5 headset, priced at $50,000. It comes with $5 of credit for SteamVR, though
- According to the latest rumors, the Apple Vision Pro 2 is coming in 2026. Or in 2027. Or 2028. Or maybe 2029 or 2030. Mark the dates on your calendars!
And that’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed this quick roundup of news, and if it is the case, please share it with your friends. Also, let me know in the comments which one you’ve found to be the most interesting!
(PS Of course it’s an April Fools… I say that to avoid someone actually believing these pieces of news! And of course all the jokes on existing people and companies are made just for fun and not to insult anyone… I love you all!)
